I was just playing around with my prototype and found some good news.
My prototype uses EAs to store its meta-data, and previously I had to
patch my kernel to get that to work nicely. This is against one of our
prime directives, of course..
But the new 2.5 series has this all included. And they've done some
other nice changes in the last few months, too:
- ext3/xfs now share official EA system calls.
- four new VFS _ops have been included for FSDs with EA support.
- ext3 and xfs now share user-space utilities
This is all very good news! Not only are EAs important to our filter
implementation, but having them present and working from the beginning
will help for any kind of NAS leanings we might have, too. (so we don't
find ourselves in a Tricord mess..)
