We're figuring out an interesting way to insert our own logic in between
the kernel and the filesystem..

What about an interesting way to insert our own logic in between the
application and the kernel?

http://www.subterfugue.org/

How interesting, is all I can say. Near as I can tell, it forces a
signal after any system calls are made but *before* any system call
code is executed. This allows anything from mangling of arguments to
scrapping the system call entirely.

I can't imagine some research into this product wouldn't be beneficial
to us.. To get our code out of kernel space, for one, would be
excellent. (Course, then we're back to the 'we don't have any IP'
problem..)
