I see yer point. I was sorta trying to allow the applicant to display
some knowledge of pipes through more than just #4 and #5.. Maybe reword
them to exclude the "bonus" stuff and just say something like, "and
pretend foo(1) doesn't exist.."? Or just nix those parts entirely?

Actually, the '.' at the end shouldn't work. Arguments after the '-f'
argument ('foo-4.2.tar.gz') are taken to be members of the archive
rather than a destination directory. To untar to a destination
specified in the command line, you should have to use '-C'.
I think anyway.. perhaps there is another way?

Yeah, it's supposed to be kinda ridiculous. :) But without this one,
only #4 really shows any piping knowledge.. (though the backticks are a
pretty solid demonstration, I feel..) hence the bonus bits.
I dunno..?
