Hi all,
Perry just called. Dan spent some time talking to Barry in England,
and it turns out that Barry wants ARVM first, not ADML. That is, I
believe, a Supernova-like RAID5 solution with a backup application on
the box and with two heads. Active-passive is OK.
Can we meet sometime over the weekend or on Monday? Please
let me know ASAP! Perry and I can make either time.
Here's a brief outline of some thoughts on how this would work, as
I remember them:
- We do our own RAID5. We add storage by brute-force restriping.
- We do our own snapshot copy.
- We use the passive head for backups. The active head communicates
snapshot copy associated changes to the passive head, so the
passive
head backs up the correct data.
As Perry points out, this can all work within the existing
architecture
(i.e., the filter driver and the portal).
