I was looking at XFS today and they support for
   EA, ACLs and Data Management API (DMAPI/XDSM) 
 
  Using XFS might lead to the elimination of any 
  kernel development or at least this could lead to a
   quick prototype.  

   The disadvantage is that this make us filesystem
  dependent.
