Computerworld: Open source: Even beta is better > Back to Top UNDER THE BRIM SURVEY In this month's UTB Survey, we ask for your opinion on applications that you'd like to see running on Linux. @ Take This Month's Survey Also, last month's UTB Survey results are in. We asked the following questions about migration issues: 1. What is the primary company-sanctioned operating system in your company today for server applications? Windows NT was the number one answer (you ARE working on that, right?), followed closely by Red Hat Linux, and then UNIX in third. Now, if we had asked for the primary NON-company sanctioned operating system... 2. What would be/are the most important supporting materials that will help/are helping you during the migration process? The majority of you count on personal experience, experience of friends and associates, Red Hat technical documentation, and redhat.com. Other popular answers included online forums and communities and Red Hat whitepapers. 3. Which of the following is not an actual migratory bird? A whopping 38.9% of you guessed the correct answer, the Black-chinned Screech Owl, which not only isn't a migratory bird, but isn't really a bird at all. You = smart. Other popular, but completely wrong, answers included the American Wigeon, the Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel, the Red-billed Pigeon, and our personal favorite, Swinhoe's Snipe. Thanks for participating. > Back to Top UNDER THE BRIM CONTEST 24 WINNER: HAPPY BIRTHDAY UTB! To celebrate the two-year anniversary, we asked you to guess the number of Under the Brim subscribers. The actual number is 235,884. That's a lot of people. Consider: - Only 10 times more people lived on the entire Earth in 5000 B.C. - It's about the same as the population of Belize - It's about 100,000 more than the world's total population of hippopotamuses The winning guess was so close we sent the authorities to his house for questioning: Francois J. from London guessed 235,000. Now that's impressive. The runner-up was Bob W. from Auckland, New Zealand who guessed 232,684. Also a great guess. Thanks for the entries. > Back to Top UNDER THE BRIM CONTEST 25: REDHAT.COM SCAVENGER HUNT For last month's contest, all you had to do was guess a number. This month's contest is going to take a little more work. Your mission is to find the answers to these five questions, all somewhere on redhat.com. Good luck. -- 1. In what city is our regional European headquarters? 2. According to Michael Tiemann, if the pioneers get the arrows, who gets the corn? 3. Which company "makes operations sing with Red Hat Linux?" 4. How much does a Red Hat fedora cost? 5. What non-Red Hat product uses Red Hat's RedBoot as a boot monitor? -- The winner receives a copy of Red Hat Linux 7.1 Professional. If more than one of you find all five correct answers, we'll draw a winner out of a red hat. Send your entry to feedback, redhat dot com Also, if you don't mind, include your physical location (country/state/city/whatever) when you send your entry. As always, if you don't want to see your name or location in the newsletter, say so. > Back to Top The above email is intended for people who have opted to receive Under the Brim from Red Hat.
