X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4522.1200 Just so you guys don't think I'm completely whacked.., The ARVM is in to show the total future package. It is important as we sell the story to show that aspect of the architecture even if it is not developed in the first release. Thanks for the comments on the drawing. Any chance I'll get a response to my questions on the sequence diagram? In response to your comments, if I understand what you're saying about the ADCs talking to the VFS, then I assume the sequence for HSM is something like. 1. Get notification that a file has closed 2. Check to see if the file is to be HSM'd 3. If it is, 4. Back it up 5. Set EA to say it's HSM'd 6. Release storage through VFS 7. Finished I don't know if it is an ADC, but clearly it is an application and it interfaces with the backup package. . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don jessup" <djessup72, yahoo dot com> To: <antera, cryptofreak dot org> Sent: Monday, October 08, 2001 5:07 PM Subject: AMANDA After reading the chapter on Amanda I'm thinking we should assume for now that a backup package will have all the mechanisms in place to let us do post processing and pre processing of the data. In other words I do not think we need a special control over the backup process. I no longer think the ABM is necessary. I think the important part of the work were doing is not the backup but the restore. I have a few comments about Perry's diagram. 1. I think in most cases the ADCs will be talking to the VFS not the portal assuming we use the EAs. 2. What about a module to do the HSM or is that one of the ADCs. 3. I agree with Jay I think we should leave the ARVM out of it for the time being. There is plenty of work to do without it. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
